Throughout the month of April, My Lifestyle Assistant is going to provide you with your free step by step guide to less stress and feeling in control of your life.
Too much indulgence over the Easter weekend? Was it the chocolate, the alcohol or the lack of sleep? Whether one or all of these things have made you feel a bit worse for wear, think twice before you reach into your medicine cabinet for a quick fix!
When was the last time you checked the expiry date on all of your medicines? This also includes plasters, bandages, cold press packs etc. Most things that belong in your medicine cabinet or first aid box have an expiry date and with medicines especially, these are really important to adhere to.
Perhaps if you have 10 minutes to spare, your organisational task of the day could be to have a little sort through of anything that has expired and also have a bit of a re-organisation. Have some of your medicines expired because you have too many of them or are they things that never get used as they are specific to one kind of illness? Could you just buy certain medicines as and when they are needed? I remember buying some calamine lotion just in case my children got chicken pox. By the time they did actually get it the bottle had expired so I had to buy another one anyway!
Are your medicines easily accessible too? Could you cut down the clutter by dividing them up into different smaller boxes - one for medicines and one for plasters/bandages etc? Maybe you could separate your medicines from the children's, so that you can easily find what you need in the middle of the night when they're up crying with coughs and colds.
You may be surprised at how much you can de-clutter in many areas of your home, but it might seem like such a daunting task to tackle it all. Try to do things bit by bit, like starting with your medicines, you'll probably find it only takes 10 minutes and you'll be so pleased with yourself next time you need to reach for the cough mixture!
